Fall Colors at Lake of the Ozarks can be so awesome! Back in the 1800's the Ozark Indians use to live and hunt in this area when moving to different
locations. Although rare or very hard
to find at this point in time, now and then one can still find a tree bent intentionally by the Indians usually pointing toward water in this area. This was common practice
for different Indian tribe's all over the mid west, sometimes these tree indicated trails, leading to hunting grounds, villages or encampments.
Years ago the Indians would take a young tree, tie a rope to the top of it and tie it down. Over time after the top of the tree starting growing straight
up they would untie the tree this caused a bend in the tree. This way if one was traveling by foot or horseback
they knew what direction water or settlement was in. When in my boat slowly cruising around looking at and listening to the wonders of nature, I often think about the
following.
Indian Chief, "Two Eagles," was asked by a white government official, "You have observed the white man for 90 years. You've seen his wars and his
technological advances. You've seen his progress, and the damage he's done."
The Chief nodded in agreement.
The official continued, "Considering all these events, in your opinion, where did the white man go wrong?"
The Chief stared at the government official for over a minute and then calmly replied.
"When white man find land, Indians running it. No taxes, No debt, Plenty buffalo, plenty beaver, Clean Water; women did all the work, Medicine man free.
Indian man spend all day hunting and fishing; all night having sex."
The chief leaned back and smiled. "Only white man dumb enough to think he can improve system like that."
